I figured I'd split this off into as it probably deserves it's own thread.
Off the top of my head, I don't think there's anywhere specific to suggest, although the nearest port of call is probably the Wrens. If you're after food then the Victoria or Scarborough Hotel are fairly reliable, the latter being good for real ale. O'Neils is good for food too. The Fention is a fairly standard pre-gig destination and the Fab Bar is also popular. If the weather's nice then the Dry Dock is an ideal venue providing you're not allergic to students.
I've probably missed off loads of obvious ones...
