quick update

Just a quick update (a bit of a cut-and-paste job I'm afraid!) to remind you that there will be no Black Sheep until Sunday 9th January (ie we're closed on January 2nd). Before that, Friday Flock will be open as normal on the 7th January - and the theme is "red"!

I'm also very pleased to announce that The Ghost Of Lemora have been confirmed for 23rd January 2004, which is only a fortnight before our special "Anniversary Weekender" - full details of which should be announced within the next week (and see below!) - which features the return of The Sisters Of Murphy. To be fair, February is turning into a bit of a bonanza for live bands, as we've also got Zeigeist Zero playing live on the 13th as part of their album launch party, followed by the return of Psychophile on February 27th. Full details of all these events will be on the Live pages imminently!

2005 is going to be a double anniversary for us. Friday Flock will a year old in February, and we've got a whole weekend of celebrations planned, so make sure you keep 4-6th February free! Later in the year will be the fifth aniversary of the "Sunday Club" becoming Black Sheep - and plans are well on the way for a very special night! Anyway, no matter how or what you might be celebrating this month, I hope it all goes well and you do it in style!

Take care, and see you in 2005..!

8th December 2004

lamb of goth

It's the festive period once again, which means strange hairy men bouncing young children on their knees, and inviting them to help empty their bulging sacks. We'll hopefully have none of that down the Phono, but there will be some unusual opening hours, and no doubt plenty of festive ho's!

So, here's the plan:

12th December
Usual 7pm-11pm, with guest DJ Howard (Carpe Noctum)

19th December - Christmas Special
7pm-12ish, Pyromancer will be in charge, with Guest DJs Corinne and Stormwitch

26th December - Boxing Day Special
7pm-?!? ...escape from the relatives for a night, with a possible late finish if we're busy!

2nd January
- No Black Sheep

7th January - Friday Flock!!

9th January
7pm-11pm - Back to business as usual, Guest DJ TBC

2005 is going to be a double anniversary for us. Friday Flock will a year old in February, and we've got a whole weekend of celebrations planned, so make sure you keep 4-6th February free! Later in the year will be the fifth aniversary of the "Sunday Club" becoming Black Sheep - and plans are well on the way for a very special night! There's plenty more on the cards, including the possibility of a live event in January, so please do keep an eye on the forums for breaking news! Anyway, no matter how or what you might be celebrating this month, I hope it all goes well and you do it in style!

Take care, and see you in 2005...

23nd November 2004

quick update

Just a small update to remind you that the "Wishville Winter Shindig" featuring the Heartland DJs is this Saturday (27th November) at the George, and this Sunday is our final live event of the year:

Sunday 28th November: FREE "Trad Special" featuring Rhombus Live at the Bassment with the Heartland DJs.
doors open from 7pm, free entry all night, full details here.

The week after sees our final Friday Flock of the year, and after the success of the Halloween fancy dress, for Friday 3rd December we're got the ambiguous theme of "Good and Evil", you know, Angels and Demons, that sort of thing!

Mentioning the Halloween party reminds me that the gallery section has finally been brought up to date, including all Live Events and Flocks - including a massive selection from November.

Finally we are very busy behind the scenes planning for 2005, we already have a number of very fine bands already booked, and yet more pencilled in... expect a proper announcement sometime around new year!

2nd November 2004

november diary

Now then, big reminder time! There is NO BLACK SHEEP on Sunday 31st October, which depending on how you look at it is either Halloween or "Whitby Sunday"!  We are back on both the following Friday and Sunday nights, and November looks a little like this:

Friday 5th November: Friday Flock's (late) Halloween Special!! Doors open from 9pm, reduced entry for those in fancy dress, prizes for the best costumes etc!!
flyer here, full details here

Sunday 7th November: Conspiracy + Uncle Fester (ex-ASF)
Live at the Bassment, doors open from 7pm.
full details here

Sunday 28th November: FREE "Trad Special" featuring Rhombus Live at the Bassment with the Heartland DJs
doors open from 7pm. full details here

We also have our usual Sunday nights on the 14th (with guest DJ Polidori) and the 21st (with Tony). Elsewhere, and the "Wishville Winter Shindig" featuring the Heartland DJs comes highly recommended (full details here) as does Killing Miranda and Psychophile who are playing at Carpe Noctum on the 13th.

27th September 2004

[update: server move complete - details here]

black leather sheepish

It's the end of the month so time for a quick update.  We're Sheeping every Sunday in October except on the 31st when we're having a night off (so you don't have to rush back from Whitby!) - more details here.  We do have a couple of special events this month tho':

October 1st: Thank Flock It's Friday!!

We're going "posh goff" this month, so we want you to dress up, and we mean really dress up... We're talking uber-goth, your absolute best Whitby attire, we want couture goddammit! And yes, there will be prizes!

October 10th: Devilish Presley - FREE GIG!

A chance to see the country's finest Deathrock band live down the Bassment, and it won't cost you a penny! What's more, on the decks we have DJ Cavey Nik from legendary club "Dead And Buried".

...And if you're worried about missing out on some Halloween silliness, we're waiting until everyone is back from the seaside to have a special Halloween Party at Friday Flock on November 5th - theres an online flyer here!

17th August 2004

a sheepish case of overbombing

This coming Sunday (22nd August) DJ Urban Cannibal will be looking after the 'Sheep, ably assisted by Pyromancer.  I'll be back the week after (29th August) and I'll be joined by the Heartland DJs for a "trad-tastic" Bank Holiday Special!  It'll be the obvious antidote to all that Infest frenzy, and there's also the possibility of late licence... full details here.

And then less than a week later, it's September's Friday Flock!  It was certainly hot and sweaty down the Phono for August's Flock, and the club was within an inch of capacity (for the second month running!), so once again we advise getting down early! Photos from all the Flocks so far can be found in the Gallery.

It's going to be a busy eight days, because only two days after the Flock we're around the Bassment for the first of September's Live events. The gig should chase away those post-Infest blues, as it features those "saviours of the UK Industrial scene" DeathBoy, with full support from Caffeine Kill. Also worth mentioning is the second gig of the month, which features the rather wonderful Cauda Pavonis, playing down the Bassment on the 26th September. Tickets are now available for both dates and full details are on the Live pages.

Of course we're open every Sunday in September, but once again those forthcoming special events (in a handy diary-ready format!) are:

Aug 29th  - Bank Holiday Special
Sept 3rd   - Friday Flock
Sept 5th   - DeathBoy + Caffeine Kill
Sept 26th - Cauda Pavonis

19th July 2004

Flying Sheep!

Time for a quick update, really just to remind people that the DeathBoy gig is now on the 5th September, and not this Sunday as the old flyers claimed!  However we do have the very wonderful Kerry from Zeigeist Zero doing the guest slot, fresh from wowing the crowds at Dark Salvation!

Speaking of flyers, as some of you may be aware we have completely run out, so it seems a good moment to pause and thank everyone who has helped with distribution, you've certainly been doing stirling work!  A new batch are on order and should be appearing soon, and for the first time in years I've done a proper "Black Sheep" flyer to go with usual Friday Flock "a side". Hopefully there may even be some Black Sheep posters appearing around Leeds soon, and rumour has it that they'll be featuring the inevitable return of the Necro Donor card!

Finally I'd better just mention that because we ran out of flyers sooner than expected, the new ones don't mention the next Friday Flock, but rest assured it's business as usually down the Phono on August 6th!

22nd June 2004

The Sisters are coming to the Sheep!

This weekend we're going seriously trad with the very wonderful (and highly regarded) Sisters Of Murphy, with the usual support from the Sheepish DJs, spinning them like the 80s never ended! I'm also guesting the night before at a special event called Heartland, run by the guys from the Sisters Forum. It's basically a one-off 80s-style goth night to compliment the gig on the Sunday. Full details for both nights are:

Saturday 26th June:
Heartland
Cellar Bar @ The George, Great George Street, Leeds.
8pm - 1am, £2.00 on the door.

Sunday 27th June:
The Sisters Of Murphy
Black Sheep Live @ The Bassment, Wade Lane, Leeds.
7pm - Midnight, £3.00 om the door.

As I'm unlikely to update before a week friday, I'd better also mention our "other" night, Friday Flock, which is continuing throughout summer, the next date being the 2nd July. If you haven't been yet, you can see what you're missing in the Galleries section, which has a huge section devoted to the June event here. On the subject of the Galleries, theres also a fairly large number of photos from the recent Ghost Of Lemora / Screaming Banshee Aircrew gig here.

Finally, a quick reminder that the DeathBoy gig originally on the 25th July has now been moved to 5th September.

Sheep in Summer

Just a quick update to thank both The Ghost Of Lemora and Screaming Banshee Aircrew for putting on such great shows on Sunday night. Also thanks to everyone who came down and supported the night, as you could probably tell it was our busiest ever live event by quite some margin!

I should get on with a proper update, but in the meantime, a quick reminder that Friday Flock is continuing throughout the summer, and is this Friday (that's the 4th June), and of course Black Sheep is back at the Phono as usual this Sunday, with guest DJ Simon A from York's Body Electric.

18th May 2004

Maybe Sheepish II

So what a month May has turned out to be!

We've had Vampires, Flocks and Weekenders... but I think that we've saved the best until last:

30th May 2004 - Bank Holiday Sunday

The Ghost Of Lemora
+
Screaming Banshee Aircrew

Doors 8pm. The Bassment, Wade Lane, Leeds.
Full sets from both bands, and full clubnight through to 2am.

Details are on the Live page, but all you really need to know is that this is a double headliner featuring two of the finest contemporary goth bands we have in this country!

Paul.

3rd May 2004

Carpe Ovis

Many thanks to the Vampire Division guys for making last night our busiest ever live event... things are looking very good for the double headliner on the 30th!

While I'm here, a quick reminder that its Friday Flock number four this Friday, as part of the entirely spurious "West Yorkshire Goth Weekender", full details of which are:

This Friday (7th May) - Friday Flock
Saturday - Carpe Noctum with Guest DJs from Black Sheep
Sunday - Black Sheep with Guest DJs from Carpe Noctum

The Sheep and the Flock are down the Phono as usual, and Carpe is from 10pm in the very lovely "1 in 12" Club, Bradford.

Finally, as it's this week, a very Happy Birthday to 'Flock resident DJ Urban Cannibal!  It's Newcastle Brown, to save you asking
!

Paul.

16th April 2004

Maybe Sheepish

Theres so much happening in the coming months that it's difficult to know where to start!  On the 2nd May we host the second ever live appearance from Vampire Division (the new project featuring Tony McKormack, guitarist and primary songwriter for Inkubus Sukkubus).  Later in the month we have a double headliner featuring The Ghost Of Lemora and our old friends Screaming Banshee Aircrew.  Both these events are on Bank Holidays, so expect plenty of late drinking!

Speaking of drinking, we're declaring the weekend of May 7th-9th as the great "West Yorkshire Goth Weekender", and it will feature Friday Flock, Carpe Noctum and Black Sheep.  There are full details here, for the brave, foolhardy or strong of liver!

Which leads nicely onto Friday Flock... we were originally going to do a run of four, take a break over Summer and then maybe do some more, but instead we've thrown caution to the wind, and we'll now be on the first Friday of every month until at least September!

Finally, Black Sheep is still every sunday at the Phono, and all the latest news and Guest DJ listings are in the Forum.  Oh yes, and to finish back where I started, you may have noticed that the list of live events just keeps growing!  In the last month we've confirmed appearances from The Sisters Of Murphy (somewhat better than the "real thing"!), Devilish Presley and DeathBoy.  Full details, as ever, on the Live page, but it really is turning into quite a year!

Paul.

10th March 2004

Pictures of Ewe

It's turning into a rather good year for Black Sheep, what with the success of Friday Flock, not to mention the Live events... and this month we've got another corker of a gig, with Season's End playing on the 28th March, and what's more, it's free entry again!

Looking forward to April, and apart from the third Friday Flock on the 2nd, we have another seven hour extravaganza on Easter Sunday, with special guest Gilly from the Wendyhouse, and a bar until 2am!

Speaking of Friday Flock, it took a while for me to get the photos sorted after the launch night, but they are are now up in the Gallery, along with the first batch from the March event, in record time! The March Flock really was an excellent night, and I'm pleased to say the photos really do it justice!

9th February 2004

Out to Launch

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped fill the Phono for the "Friday Flock" launch night last Friday!

It really was an exceptionally good start to our run of four dates and I hope you'll all join us again on March 5th.  Please let us know what you thought of the night here in the Forums!  There are apparently plenty of pictures from the night which will be up in the Gallery as soon as possible.  Thanks are also due to the regulars who came down to Black Sheep as well, I was worried we might have a "quiet" sunday night, but it was anything but!

Finally, a quick plug for Skinflick, who are playing on the 29th February 2004. Full details are on the Live page.  As this is a free gig there's really no excuse not to come down, and if successful will hopefully mean more free events in future!

30th January 2004

Thank Flock it's...

...finally here!

Thank Flock It's Friday!! - 6th February 2004

The all new monthly 'Sheep special!  See the website and Forums for full details...

Also in February we have our first live event of the year, and what's more, we're rather generously letting everyone in for free..!

Skinflick (Free Gig!) - 29th February 2004 @ The Bassment

Skinflick have "Hard hitting, industro-goth rhythms" and incorporate the power of metal with electronics, radical mixing and bombastic production.  Support comes from the usual full Black Sheep club experience, and it's worth saying it again, it's a free gig!  Full details should be on the Live page shortly.

Oh yeah, and of course we're still doing sunday nights as well, so it looks like February is going to be another hectic month..!
