Grimly Sheephpish

After October's upheavals, I've made some more (fairly significant) changes to the site structure, but instead of boring you with the techy stuff (.php etc), I've put it here. Basically, if you come across anything not working, please please please mail me immediately!

The changes are mostly back-end, but it means theres now a "live" link to the forums just to your right. And did I mention Shaun, the forums's new pet sheep/AI bot? Theres more info about "him" here. It's all a bit silly, but it is that time of year...

The Guest DJs for the rest of the year have now been booked (I'm so organised!)... theres plenty of variety so we're in for a great couple of months! Special thanks to Ketlogic for stepping in at short notice to replace Dominic this coming sunday. Please note that Simon will now be guesting on the 24th.

Finally, due to much cajouling, I've started putting the occasional setlist up in the forums and from now on I will hopefully be posting as many of the guest DJs setlist as I can get my hands on.

Paul.

Sheep In Transit

So, its done. The DNS changes have replicated around the web. If you're reading this, then you're already on the new server, 'cos I'm not updating the old one anymore!

First off, head over to the forums, specifically this thread, just to check that you can still log in (if you've registered previously that is!) - Then marvel at how much faster the forum is, and why not say "hello" while you're there?! ..and if you haven't registered, now is probably as good a time as ever! Please be aware that the site structure (specifically the forums) has changed, so I'm afraid existing bookmarks will have to be changed - sorry!

Elsewhere on the new site, the gallery has been updated with the photos Simon took on 13th October 2002. Also present are snaps from Daz's Birthday, admittedly these were on the old server, but I think it was only mentioned in the forums.

So thats it for now, probably more changes to come, once we're properly "live"!

Paul.

Sheep In Transit

You are reading this on the new server!

Yes, the time has come to move, and the text above (in a lovely shade of red or green) will tell you whether you're reading this on the old or new server. Basically its all about DNS settings replicating around the web, so when, to quote some ropey old goth band, "the red turns green", you'll know you've arrived!

I've been friggin' about with forum on the new server (très speedy!), but at this rate its unlikely to be ready in time for the DNS change... so if its down or 404ing, you'll know why. I'll try to have it all sorted asap.

Oh, I'm supposed to say something about DJs here arn't I..?! This sunday (as I type) we have the ever wonderful Simon Breton (formerly "of Bretonnia"!) in his regular slot. Simon took some top photos last sunday, and they'll be up on the new server. The following week, for those returning from whitby, is the 1 in 12's finest, Howard from Carpe Noctum. Finally, in November we should (hopefully!) have DJ De'Ath making his long overdue return to the Black Sheep turntables.

Paul.

Sheeply Mental

The forum is back up, apparently with new features (not that I can find them!) and with an improved caching system. In simple terms, it should be a bit faster, which can't be a bad thing. The downside is that with all my back-end tinkering (ooer!) I'm bound to have screwed up something, so if you encounter problems, please let me know.

While I'm here, the remaining DJs for September have been confirmed, Ketlogic plays her debut set at the Sheep, and Gilly makes her long overdue return.

Finally I'll take the opportunity to welcome Grace Gee into the world, and wish Maggye and Nik many sleepless nights!

Paul.

2nd September 2002
Sheeptember

Thanks to Implant Matt for kicking the month off in such style, it was certainly a very busy start to September! Coming up next week, in the 7-8pm slot, we have Ross, playing his first set at Black Sheep. The week after we have the most welcome return of Mr Simon of Bretonnia, certainly a tunesmith and a half! As for the rest of the month, its all very much "TBA" at the moment, although guests will be announced, once confirmed, in the forum. Having said that, be warned that the forum will be down for some of this month to allow for an upgrade and probably some tinkering...

Finally, many thanks to the people who have been out flyering for Black Sheep at WH/Infest/etc, you know who you are!!

Paul.

6th August 2002
Sheep dot Aug

Well it was close, damn close, but we didn't quite get Jamie did we? Many thanks to Tracey, Corin, Simon and Russell for being flexible friends, not to mention playing some damn fine sets! Thanks to unexpectedly becoming gainfully employed (hello LCC) I've been particularly lazy with booking DJs, so I can only confirm Polidori for August... However, for those not Infesting, I gather we should have the usual bar extension for the Bank Holiday!

Finally, I'm often asked for set lists, but I never get around to writing them down. So prehaps here's the next best thing... its a list of all the requests written down last Sunday (04-08-02), and while it doesn't give a true flavour of the night, it certainly proves that most requests get played! The list is the forum, or you can go to it directly by clicking here.

Paul.

24th June 2002
A Midsummer Night's Sheep

I forgot to do a proper June update, so a quick thanks to Allan, Andy, Richard and "DJ virgin" Paul. The final DJ this month is also a "virgin" (although there is strong evidence to suggest that this is only in the DJ sense of the word!), being Mrs Polidori, also known as Malaise.

Purely by coincidence, this month we've started trad, gone through euro, cyber and industrial, and ended up back where we started (And yes, I use those terms very, very loosely), so there's your "all shades of goth"!!

There are no guest DJs booked for July yet... there will be guest DJs (as usual) but they'll be booked/announced at short notice, see the news topic in the forum for more details. Normal service will be resumed in August!

Finally, I believe from the forum that there may be cake this coming sunday, rest assured there will be no Altered Images being played!

Paul.

15th May 2002
Smack My Sheep Up

As promised, Black Sheep now has its own phpBB powered forum!

I gather certain companies block access to ezboard. However, as the new forum is hosted locally, there should be no such problems.

I've initially set up the board so that registration isn't necessary. Hopefully this won't be abused and we can leave it as an open resource...

There will be teething problems (as always), but these will only come to light if/when people start to use the forum in earnest... at the moment its terribly empty, so please, get posting!!!!

The link on the left now points to the new forum, or you can click here!

29th April 2002
What Sheep May Come

Well..!

Here we have the all-new Black Sheep website, now with added duff links! So far the only thing that's changed is the domain name, but over the coming weeks there should be a few new features, including (I hope) a new forum. Until then, you can tell me where the duff links are, by mailing me.

15th April 2002
Correction

Despite previous reports, it is in fact Dominic (Black Veil and most of Europe!) that will be DJing on the 5th May, and not John B as previously stated. Sorry for any confusion caused! John will be DJing this sunday, and the full May listing should be up within a week...

8th April 2002
April Sheeps

First off, , thanks to everyone (including Sally's catering service!) for making Easter Sunday such a good night... not too long to wait for the next bank holiday, and you never know, they might even organise an extension!

Just a little late for last month's "births and marriages" section, much missed ex-Sheep Jamie has also become a proud father, so best wishes to all at chez James.

Most of April's guest DJs are again representing local nights. Last night we had Tracey from Black Out, which sadly closed its doors for the final time this month. Next week we have Matt from Implant, a new monthly night of "industrial madness" at Abrahams in Huddersfield. On the 28th we have Howard from Carpe Noctum, rescheduled from earlier in the year. Finally this month we have John B, who will hopefully be hosting a "Dark Jubilee" promo night.

Finally, a quick plug for the Black Veil boys who are hosting "The Last Days Of Jesus" at Josephs Well on the first of May. Thanks to the Phono hosting H2H on the 20th, I'll actually be going to Black Veil (not to mention the Wendy House) this month, so see you all there!

Paul.

27th February 2002
March of the Sheep

First off, let me congratulate Mr and Mrs Andy C on their recent tying of the knot! I look forward to seeing pictures of the Black Veil boys in their best clobber! Also, best wishes go to Polidori's good lady, and their impending new lamb... we have the responsibility to ensure the continual survival of goth, so all of you, get out there and get breeding! (Probably best not to dwell on that thought too long...)

Moving swiftly on, although on a similar theme, Easter sees Black Sheep's second birthday, which means the 31st March is yet another excuse to come down the Phono and eat lots of cake!

For March we have a near perfect mix of DJs, with John B and Richard from "Dead Stars" representing the cyber side. Doing the business trad style we have Allan and Polidori. Finally we have Corin playing the more electronic stuff. Full details, as ever, on the Guest DJs page.

Finally, a quick thanks to everyone who's filled in the Survey, I'll be putting some of the results up here at some point... the survey is on-going, so if you want to make your opinion known, there are full details here.

Paul.

P.S. If it's still there, sorry about the EasySpace banner... I'm sure the Phono will get it removed soon.. I know I said that last month!

28rd January 2002
February

February has unexpectedly turned into a month of sequels. After his well received debut at the Sheep last year, I'm very pleased that Howard from Carpe Noctum will be returning. Also marking their second "comeback"(!) night are the Black Lodge gang, who will be sharing the DJing all night. Last, but certainly not least, we feature the long awaited return of Dominic representing Black Veil.

So with three of the region's top events coming to the Sheep in February, I think we can look forward to a particularly fine month!!

Paul.

P.S. If it's still there, sorry about the EasySpace banner... I'm sure the Phono will get it removed soon!

3rd January 2002
Welcome to the Future

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for making 2001 such a good year for Black Sheep! My thanks must first go to Jamie, without whom the Sheep wouldn't be so diverse, and certainly wouldn't be so popular.

Secondly I'd like to thank all the 2001 guest DJs: Allan, Andy C, Dominic, Gilly, Horny Simon, Howard, JJ, John B, Jon P, Louise, Matt, Polidori, Russell, Simon and anyone from the first couple of months I may have missed (sorry!). In 2001 we seemed to have covered almost everyone from the region, with guests from Black Lodge, Black Veil, BlackOut, Carpe Noctum, Chosen and Dead Stars, not to mention Nightbreed making the journey north. Hopefully 2002 will be just as diverse.

It's probably obvious, but I'd also like to thank everyone who's supported the Sheep throughout the year, especially those who brave wind, rain, snow and the severest of hangovers to come every week. Cheers!

Looking forward, and January is already shaping up, with a couple of favourite guests, and at least one new face behind the decks. Beyond January, and after the success of the last event, February sees the second Black Lodge v. Black Sheep double header! Full details on the Guest DJ page as usual.

I'm afraid that it'll soon be that time of year again! Having made the discovery during the year that the membership forms contained a survey-type thing, and that people actually filled them in, I've refined the forms a bit. Please fill them in, because it really does help shape the night. If you're membership isn't up (or you're not a member) you can still take part - just ask for a form on the door. Or you can download one from here and then bring it in!

Finally, the pictures from the Christmas bash are now available in the gallery, thanks to Sally for "digitally enhancing them"!!

Paul.

17th December 2001
Behold the Lamb of Goth!

Well, December is shaping up rather well!

We started the month with possibly the busiest Sheep this year (bank holidays not withstanding!), and this coming sunday (23rd) we have the obligatory festive bash...

I'm afraid the Phono has failed us on the promised extension (again!), but extension or not, it should be a fun-filled evening, and yes, there will be muffins! Allan will be on hand to serve up some festive cheese, 80s style, and I'll be playing all the usual nonsense. Best clobber is essential, and those of a vain persuasion should be aware that cameras will be present!!
Expect pictures to appear on the website before next summer...

Finally, I'd like to say a quick thanks to John and Rachel for giving Shaun a much needed makeover!

Paul.

6th November 2001

Welcome to the new version of the Black Sheep Website!

I got sick of the dull layout, and I grew to hate the aqua...
and as a result, here's the new site. It's style over content, of course,
but there you go!

It's been knocked together using IE5.5 (not exactly thru choice!) and I
haven't had chance to test it on anything else so, for the time being,
consider it a "beta". If you find any broken links or other screw-ups, let
me know!

To celebrate the new release, I've submitted to EzBoard's blackmail and
forked out for the Golden Sucker thingy. This means there should be no more annoying pop-ups or adverts, so post at will!

Elsewhere, and the Guest DJ page is up to date. There's been a little
confusion of late over dates, so as of today, this is the November listing:

11th November: Black Lodge - this is a special split event, with the Djing
split 50/50 between the Lodge and the Sheep - should be a top night!

18th November: 7pm - 8pm Simon of Bretonnia

25th November: Howard from Carpe Noctum, 8.30 - 9.30

The 18th has caused me some grief this month, and I would like to apologise for any confusion caused. Hopefully the situation is now resolved. Apart from Horny Simon in December, this is the diary as it now stands.. if any of this is wrong, please get in touch asap!

Paul.
